The epistemological assumptions of Hjelmslev's theory of language: Frege and Wittgenstein's Analytical Philosophy

The purpose of this article is to investigate the epistemological assumptions of four sentences expounded by Hjelmslev at the end of his “Essay on a theory of morphemes” (1991). To this end, initially, we will situate the theoretical framework of the Danish linguist in a specific paradigm. Subsequently, Hjelmslev's sentences will be put into dialogue with the thoughts of two philosophers of language: Frege and Wittgenstein. We will point out the philosophical influences - direct and indirect - on Hjelmslev and show that the final conclusions realized by the linguist, at the end of his essay text, are already well established by the Analytical Philosophy of Language.
