Art, histories, and intellectual thought are woven together in Irish and Latin American Literature and Culture Symposium, Mexico City, 2025

Abstract

This last 17, 18 and 19^th of September, disciplines, countries and viewpoints came together at “The Turns of the Centuries: Irish and Latin American Literature and Culture 2025 International Symposium”. This event was jointly organized by the Extracurricular Free Chair of Irish Studies and the Irish Diaspora: Edna O’Brien and Colum McCann (UNLPam), the W. B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies (USP), and the Eavan Boland—Anne Enright Chair of Irish Studies (UNAM) with the support of SILAS, ABEI, and alongside the Irish Embassies in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia via the ESP (Emigrant Support Programme). Although the event was concretely held in the Casa Universitaria del Libro, in Mexico City, it could not have been a more accurate embodiment of international cooperation to foster intellectual, cultural and personal connections. The following review recounts the Symposium’s Keynote Lectures, the readings by visiting artists, as well as some of the panel’s topics and perspectives, looking to evince the diversity and the community the Symposium cultivated.
