A Participação das Mulheres Africanas nos Movimentos Sociais

This article provides a comprehensive overview of women's contribution to national and anti-colonial movements, highlighting its influence on current legislative representation in Mozambique. Over the past twenty years, there has been a substantial increase in the presence of women in Parliament, reflecting a similar trend across Africa. This rise can be attributed, in part, to institutional factors such as pressures in democratization processes, the voluntary and involuntary implementation of gender quotas, and the dynamics of electoral systems. Additionally, local women's movements, resurging in the early '90s, have been instrumental in shaping and propelling constitutional changes to promote effective political participation of women. This dynamic context reflects the intermediation between national policies and international influences, underscoring the importance of strategic mobilization at the national level to drive significant transformations in women's legislative representation.
