Abstract

The present work analyzes the public campaigns of the extinct newspaper 'O Parahbuna' of Barbacena Minas Gerais. This article aims to map and understand the first publicity pieces published in the press of Barbacena (MG), inserted in the newspaper O Parahybuna, in 1837. This was the first periodical of the city and, even of ephemeral duration, it is about important historical document to understand advertising in the city. The interest of the research is to map and describe the commercial pieces present in the newspaper O Parahybuna in 1837 and to analyze the consequent social locus in a sociohistorical dimension. The theoretical path is based on the concepts of ethos for Amossy (2008) and Charaudeau (2008). In parallel, the aesthetic question of Brazilian advertising in the 19th Century is investigated.
