Abstract

Three approaches to the reading process are presented: 1) a psychoanalytic approach, 2) a phenomenological approach, and finally 3) schizoanalysis. The article presents the creation of the philosophical concept 'minor reading' mentioning previous attempts to understand reading and reading in group (bibliometry) outside the framework of psychoanalysis and hermeneutic phenomenology. The process of reading seen by psychoanalysis comprises reading as a cathartic process, plus other psychoanalytic categories such as introspection or projection. Opposing psychoanalysis we present the hermeneutic phenomenology of reception aesthetics, both approaches being popular in Brazil in several areas that deal with reading, such as Literature, Psychology or Librarianship. We emphasize in this paper the third approach brought by Philosophy of Difference as another option to be considered by the scholars of the subject.
