This paper deals with the sedimentological analysis carried on the sandstones from the Furnas Formation (paraná Group - Lower Devonian), Rio Bonito Formation (Tubarão Group - Permocarboniferous) . and Botucatu Formation sensu latu (São Bento Group - Lower Gretaceous) of the Paraná Sedimentary Basin in the Northern-Central part of the Paraná State, Brazil. The results of the grain size analysis, the roundness grades and the heavy minerals studies were statistically treated to prove the occurrence of the canibalism (successive reworking) during the deposition of these sandstones. At same time, the depositional environments of these sediments were established by sedimentological techniques. As the textural and mineralogical (numerical frequency) features of these sandstones are not sufficiently individualized, the authors propose the analysis of the heavy minerals in terms of shape/ roundness/weathering grade classes as a valuable tool in the correlation and differentiation problems of these sediments.
