Abstract

The thin layers of higher clay content than the surrounding soil, known as "bandas onduladas", frequently reported in the Bauru Formation area of the State of São Paulo occidental plateau (Brazil), are here studied in a region bound by Osvaldo Cruz - Tupã and Rancharia cities. The genetic significance of their sedimentological characteristics (grain size and heavy mineral composition) and other properties (clay, calcium carbonate and iron oxyde content) is considered in comparison with that of Bauru Formation unweathered sediments.
