The "Muzinho Shales" represent today one of the most importantant Mesozoic stratigraphie horizons in Northeast Brazil. The present work deals specifically with the palynologie analysis of these sediments. The thirteen species identified here permit the chronostratigraphic placement of the fossil-bearing strata within the Buracica Stage, erected by PETROBRÂS palynologists, which corresponds to the basal Cretaceous. Some considerations on the stratigraphie setting and depositional environment of the strata are also made.
