Abstract

This essay aims to present some of the central points in the work of authors such as Marylin Strathern, Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, and Manuela Carneiro da Cunha, especially concerning their critiques of the problem of “interpretation” in anthropological translation. Here, I guide the discussion around terms like “body,” “time,” and “history,” as these are at the heart of an important debate regarding the limits of the epistemological foundations of anthropology—and of Euro-Western thought, more generally—serving as a compass to guide the reader through the thinking of these authors and, possibly, leading us to new theoretical horizons. Thus, the article serves both as an introductory exposition of some of the reflections of fundamental authors in Anthropology and as an effort to reiterate the essential place that the “body” occupies in the production of anthropological knowledge today
