Based on the work of Marcia Ochoa and the author's own ethnography, this essay aims to think about the performativity and relationality of place in Brazilian anthropological production, especially that focused on the study of gender and sexuality. Paying attention to the recent prominence of studies developed in non-metropolitan contexts, the text aims to understand how the discussion of place is influenced by the effects of projects aimed at expanding higher education and disputes in the field of sexual rights.
