Abstract

Brazilian cinema is quite often understood as evolving in cycles. Film gender approaches are not very frequent, as they seem more adequate to an analysis on the cinematographic industry context. In this framework, some film genders are less observed by the critics and by historians. Such is the case of science fiction, apparently an exclusive universe presenting economically powerful cinematoghraphies. Can we, in fact, speak of a science fiction gender when referring to brazilian cinema? The answer is yes. This work intends to offer some notes supposed to contribute to a historical and critical study of science fiction in our country's film tradition.
