May the world not perish: truth, memory and politics in Hannah Arendt

If truth and politics emerge initially in Hannah Arendt's work as antagonistic sides of an apparently unresolvable opposition – opposition originally marked by the conflict between the philosopher's truth and the opinions of the citizens –, in her essay Truth and Politics, published for the first time in 1967, the author seems to put in new terms the relationship between them, thinking it, after all, from another perspective. Considering this context, this paper aims at an examination of the relationship that Arendt seems to establish between truth, as the place of memory, and the world, seeking to understand, thus, the relevance and the possible “role” played by factual truth with regard to politics.
