The growing Latin American migratory flows in recent decades have reshaped educational contexts in Brazil. This article analyzes their impact on basic education through a literature review and secondary data analysis. It discusses recent flows and regional reconfigurations, public policies ensuring school access, resulting educational inequalities—especially linguistic barriers—and strategies of reception and interculturality. Findings reveal a significant rise in immigrant students’ enrollment, but also persistent obstacles to access, permanence, and high dropout rates, reinforced by assimilationist practices that disregard cultural and linguistic differences. The study concludes by highlighting the urgency of intercultural policies and pedagogical practices that ensure effective inclusion and equal educational opportunities.
