Abstract

The Divine Holy Ghost Party of Mogi das Cruzes, at the same time that represents the past in the traditional festivities form, describes itself in the urbane space with all its complexity. The proper fest modernizes itself in its organization, what implies division of work, financial administration, and divulgation by media among other aspects. The Party, in reality, updates itself in the dynamic of urbane society, incorporating new values, adjusting and/or eliminating the old values. The party of the new time redefines itself in each year increasingly integrating to the market logic, as spectacle. However, the Party of Mogi admits also moments of plenitude, by the excellent presence of the popular culture, manifesting (unconsciously) residues of preterit times, what, once not dominated by the capital and joined, have transformer potential.
