Abstract

In recent years, the concept of cultural landscape is gaining strength and prominence in discussions about heritage preservation. In Brazil, the institutional and academic debates about this concept culminated in the publication of Ordinance No. 127 of 30 April 2009, which creates a new tool for asset protection and land management: the seal of the Brazilian Cultural Landscape. It aims to attract resources and actions to safeguard the region's Foreign Ministry, through partnerships between the IPHAN, civil society, private enterprise and the different levels of government. However, being an instrument recently as a series of doubts and weaknesses with respect to their employability. It will seek, through this article, clarify some issues based on current legislation and in studies by Iphan, in order to provide a theoretical support to encourage able, in practice, using this new tool for asset preservation, which has great potential to make important contributions to national policies for the preservation of cultural and environmental heritage.
