The meaning of work for post-event firefighters

Acting in unexpected events and having the mission of preserving life, a firefighter's profession deserves emphasis in academic studies due to the emotional and physical involvement that the activity requires. This qualitative study analyzed the meaning of work for 40 firefighters involved in the critical event occurred at the Nightclub Kiss (Santa Maria). It was found that for the interviewees the event reflected negatively on the organizational and social dimensions, changing the meaning attributed to work, especially, when facing its precarious relationship, lack of moral acceptance and social recognition.
