Interview with Rick Azevedo: For a Life Beyond Work – For the End of the 6x1 Work Schedule

Abstract

The interview presented here was conducted in person on the morning of November 11, 2025, at the office of Councilman Rick Azevedo in the Rio de Janeiro City Council. The interviewee, Rick Azevedo, is the founder of the movement “Life Beyond Work – For the End of the 6x1 Work Schedule” (VAT), and the interviewer was Professor Flávia Manuella Uchôa de Oliveira, faculty member at the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), who conceived and developed the text in partnership with Professor Juliano Almeida Bastos, from the University of Pernambuco (UPE). The text is organized into four parts. The first explains why we chose to interview workers. The second presents the movement “Life Beyond Work – For the End of the 6x1 Work Schedule” (VAT), of which Rick Azevedo is the founder and main representative. We believe that these introductory remarks provide the context for the third part, a brief note about the interviewee, and for the fourth part, the interview itself. The interview consists of the transcription of more than 50 minutes of conversation in which Rick Azevedo discusses his trajectory, his experiences working under the 6x1 schedule, the founding of VAT, and the future of the movement. To complement the information provided, we used footnotes and brackets when necessary in order to preserve coherence and the flow of reading. At the end, we offer concluding remarks and the references used throughout the text. As we have stated elsewhere (Sato et al., 2024), one of our tasks is to contribute to the construction and preservation of the memory of Work Social Psychology (PST) and of the working class. We hope that this interview will become another contribution to this endeavor.
