Abstract

In this article we propose a translation of poems written by two prominent women of Palestinian poetry: Fadwa Tuqan (1919-2003) and Salma Jayyusi (1926-). The translation took into account the formal and semantic issues relevant to gender in poems that highlight the role of female resistance in the context of Palestinian and Israeli patriarchal societies. Tuqan’s poems are “The flood and the tree”, “Next to her bosom” and “The prediction of the oracle” and Jayyusi’s are “Khartoum” and “Songs for an Arab City”.
