This article proposes a reading of Hector Bianciotti's short story "Le barque sur le Neckar" (1982), considering the Argentine author´'s transition from Spanish (the language of his birth country) to French. To this goal, reference is made to his early works and to the way in wich the author has argued for his inclusion in the French language. It analyzes the author´' s reception discourses at the French Academy of Literature, and invokes the theoretical concepts of fetishism (BHabba, 2005), and mother tonge (Melman, 1992), among others.
