THE PUNCTUM IN THE WRITING PROCESS OF W, OR THE MEMORY OF CHILDHOOD, BY GEORGES PEREC

The text aims to perform a reading of the work W, or the memory of childhood, from the perspective of Camera Lucida. According to Barthes, the photo does not recalls the past. Perec, in its turn, claims to have written one of its main autobiographical texts from the description of some old photographs. How can we understand this writing exercise that emerges from the observation and the detailed description of the photos? The concepts of studium and punctum may be present in Perec’s reading? The relationship between memory and looking photographs, so present in Camera Lucida, will be discussed here from this autobiographical text, permeated by emptiness, forgetfulness and missing images.Downloads
