This article aims to analyze Child of the Dark (Title of the English edition), by Carolina Maria de Jesus, through the presence of "Portuguese" in two ways: as nationality, in reference to the descendants of Portuguese people who live in the poverty of favelas and subjugate the other residents, and as a language that, with their gross mistakes, also state on the language level the same poverty of life in which the narrator-character lives and how she is not subjugated to the scarcity of her miserable life.Downloads
