Women’s experiences in the Angolan wars: a reexamination of literary protagonism

This article aims to discuss the presence of female characters in three literary works: Mayombe, by Pepetela; A vida verdadeira de Domingos Xavier, by Luandino Vieira; and Essa dama bate bué!, by Yara Monteiro. With this aim, the relevance of social aspects for the construction of
narratives (Candido, 2023) and the notion of representation as a distorted reflection of reality
(Eagleton, 2011) are considered with the objective of understanding the role of women in the
armed struggles.
