A relação entre déficit do governo e déficit na balança comercial: um estudo empírico

Resumo

The decrease of inflation, after the implementation of Real Plan, reduced one source of revenue of the government, the seigniorage, and cut off another, the inflationary tax. Therefore, and because of others reasons, the internal deficit raised. This increase could have a negative effect in current account, in accordance with twin deficit theory. The focus of this paper is to study the impact of the government deficit in trade balance. The importance of this question is to know whether the deficit decrease may help to reach the trade balance target, impose by the IMF agreement.
