Resumo

The article presents a study on the impacts that the different leveis of income have on the caloric readiness of the families in the great country's urban areas. In order to achieve this outcome, the normative baskets of victuals of CEPAL and information of Budget Relatives' Research were used (POF). In the researched areas, the study showed that ali of the families with smaller incomes are in a nutritional risky situation. In addition, it was verified that the caloric inadequacy and the alimentary expenses do not present a direct relationship. It can be verified that in some areas the alimentary consumption exhibits peculiar behavior when compared with the expectation. We propose some explanatory hypotheses for this fact, as the emulatton of the consumption of the families with larger incomes, the existence of deprived social protection nets and the importance of the institutional alimentary consumption, either in the school or in the work place.
