Early childhood intervention and school achievement in Brazil: evidences from a home visiting program

Resumo

Esta pesquisa avalia os efeitos de um programa domiciliar destinado à primeira infância sobre o desempenho escolar de alunos do quinto ano do ensino fundamental, particularmente em sua performance em matemática e língua portuguesa. O programa em escrutínio é o Primeira Infância Melhor, em operação no Rio Grande do Sul desde 2003. Foram encontrados impactos positivos do programa no desempenho dos alunos em matemática, para crianças que receberam a intervenção até os três anos de idade. O estudo identificou que os mecanismos por trás dos resultados estão relacionados ao encorajamento dos pais para que o filhos realizem as atividades escolares.
