Abstract

The area known as Cracolândia, in downtown of São Paulo, is historically distinguished by policies and urban interventions that threaten the people's permanence in the territory. The socio-territorial dispute that permeates the city's central area is configured, also historically, as dispute of narratives. In this research, the objective is to understand how symbolic production and production of space are related. The perspective of the anthropologist Taniele Rui, on the actions of the State in this territory, guides the research. According to her, these actions would be of two different kinds: performative, with public aspect and spectacular, usually mediatized; and ordinary, with private and routine aspect, usually invisible. Based on this conceptualization, this work sought to understand how hegemonic and counter-hegemonic narratives are constructed, in the territorial dispute process, from the daily life and the spectacle.

  • Camila Campos de Almeida, Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU/USP)

    Journalist graduated in Social Communication from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2012) and specialized in Planning and Management of Cities, University of São Paulo (2017). Master student of the postgraduate program in Urban and Regional Planning at FAUUSP, where she is dedicated to analyze the socio-territorial disputes in the center of São Paulo. Research funded initially by CAPES and currently by FAPESP. He has experience in producing and editing content for magazines and has worked as an international politics and society reporter for Exame magazine in Editora Abril. He also served as a reporter for the magazine Superinteressante and the newspaper Diario de Pernambuco. Topics of interest: socio-territorial disputes; diversity; resistances; displacements; urban centers.
