History and Dialectic of Enlightenment: the allegory and criticism of progress

The text presents two ways of understanding the history within the Dialectic of Enlightenment. The first, allegorically constructed, has the function of denouncing the contradictions of the present. The second, on the other hand, has an understanding of the history, but as a critique of progress. In the first conception, the history conforms to a portrait of the present; in the second, the history tenses with its paralysis. Both cases, however, serve the political plan of clarifying the clarification.
