The Philosophical Life in Question: Between Kant and Nietzsche

The aim of this article is to approach Nietzsche’s philosophy through the lens of what Kant calls the sensus communnis — a faculty of judgment which, in its reflection, takes into account everyone else’s way of representing. To achieve this goal, I first present some aspects of the relationship between philosophy and health in Kant’s and Nietzsche’s thoughts, and then I analyze Kant’s characterization of “unreason” as the absence or loss of the sensus communis. After this, I try to suggest how Nietzsche’s approach to the problem of health is decisive for the uniqueness of his philosophical experience.
