"Pour mettre en relief la difficulté que l’on a parfois à cataloguer la philosophie dans le cadre des disciplines académiques, j’ai souvent utilisé un apologue : si on demande à un étudiant de chimie ou de philologie latine de décrire ce que l’on fait concrètement pendant son heure de cours, il s’en tirera sans trop de trouble. Demandons la même chose à l’étudiant qui se dirige vers son cours d’Ontologie ou même de Théorie de la Connaissance. Il aura la plus grande difficulté à expliquer au profane curieux à quoi il va occuper son temps, quelle sera non seulement sa propre tâche mais aussi celle de son professeur."
