Author Guidelines

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION:

1 Presentation

The manuscript must be prepared in a word processor compatible with IBM Word for Windows® on A4 paper size, using font size and line spacing that afford full legibility. The complete manuscript, including cover sheet, references, tables and figure titles, must not exceed 5 thousand words.

2 The cover sheet should contain:

a) article title (precise and concise) in Portuguese and English;
b) running title (50 characters at the most)
c) authors’ full names and credits (discipline/area, title, and institutional insertion);
d) corresponding address and e-mail of the primary author;
e) indication of financial support received for the development of the study;
f) indication of previous presentation at scientific meeting.

3 Abstract and key words

The second page must contain abstracts in Portuguese and English (maximum 250 words). The abstract, in only one paragraph, must indicate objective, basic procedures, and most important findings. Abstracts must be followed by up to five indexing terms drawn from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list of Index Medicus and/or the DeCS û Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (http:decs.bvs.br).

4 Structure

It is suggested that the text be divided into the following sections: a) in the Introduction, state the purpose of the article, justifying the relevance of the study in view of pertinent literature findings; b) the Methodology section should detail how subjects (including controls) were selected, the methods, apparatuses, and procedures used in sufficient detail to allow other researchers to reproduce the results, as well as the statistical methods used in data analysis (avoid sole reliance on statistical hypothesis testing, such as the use of P values, which fail to convey important quantitative information); c) in Results, present them succinctly and in logical sequence, usually recurring to graphs and tables û taking the double care not to refer readers solely to the latter neither to repeat in the text every datum on the tables; d) in the Discussion, comment most important findings in relation to previous studies results; e) the Conclusion summarizes logic and grounded deductions and inferences of the Results and Discussion sections.

5 Tables, graphs, figures, diagrams

Are considered graphic elements. Only manuscripts containing up to five graphic elements will be considered for review. Authors should carefully select them for their relevance (graphs are justifiable only to allow quick apprehension of complex variable behavior, not to illustrate, for instance, differences between two variables). All should come at the end of the text, keeping marks therein at the points of their ideal insertion.
Tables must be typed in the text processor and numbered (in Arabic numerals) consecutively in the order of citation in the text; in Portuguese, decimals are separated by comma; full extent of abbreviations must be given in footnotes.
Graphs, photographs, diagrams or other illustrations are equally numbered in Arabic in the order of citation, with abbreviations and further information in legends.

6 References

References must be cited in the text by using the reference number in superscript at the end of the sentence or the referenced portion of the sentence. At the end of text, they should be compiled numerically according to the order of citation in the text. Reference format should follow the style prescribed by the Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals (by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors), available on http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/ uniform_requirements.html, or http://www.icmje.org.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the site www.mdpesquisa.com.br/FP. When submitting a manuscript for publication the authors must send:

  • Statement of responsibility, conflict of interest and authorship of the contents of the article. The authors must declare the existence of possible conflicts of interest (professional, financial and direct and indirect benefits) that might have influenced research results and the responsibility of the author (s) for the content of the manuscript.
    See the model in the site: www.mdpesquisa.com.br / FP.

  • Declaration of transfer of copyright (copyright) for Physical Therapy and Research, signed by all of the authors, with their CPF numbers, in case of acceptance of manuscript (also in the model site above).

  • In case of trial, report the number of records validated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), whose addresses are available at the ICMJE: www.icmje.org/faq.html
