The Geographical Dimension of Crooked Plow and Readings of Brazil: Body and land in Itamar Vieira Junior’s Novel

Authored by the geographer Itamar Vieira Junior, the novel Crooked Plow (2019) has such a geographical dimension that it expands perceptions about Brazil. Located in the hinterland Água Negra, the artwork is about the sisters Bibiana and Belonísia, whose lives are permeated by issues such as the recognition of quilombola identity, anti-racist education, gender violence, habitation by condition and fight for land. Based on the book, this work addresses approaches between geography and literature through the concept of mimesis and the analytical categories of body and land.
