This article intends to find interconnecting points between Ethnomusicology and the work of the anthropologist, dancer and choreographer Katherine Dunham (1909-2006), based on the analysis of her monograph called Dances of Haiti (1947/1983) and her collection of videos, images and texts available on the website of the Library of Congress of the United States. Key aspects highlighted in the analysis include her research methodology, which incorporates the body and dance as producers and disseminators of knowledge, as well as the choice of documenting expressive forms made by Dunham. The article concludes by contemplating the potential impact of her contributions to the field of Ethnomusicology, particularly concerning Afro-diasporic music and dance, and examines the reasons for her neglect within this area of study.
