This article reflects on the photographs taken during my fieldwork in Yalálag, a Zapotec Indigenous community, in 2007. My reflections were prompted by the impact of recent images produced by Yalaltec photographer Citlali Fabián. The connection between my photographs and those of the Mexican photographer has opened up new perspectives, raised questions, and offered insights based on my experience as an anthropologist in the Zapotec village.
