Warburg antropólogo ou o deciframento de uma utopia: da biologia das imagens à antropologia da memória

Abstract

Nós tentamos mostrar que as pesquisas há muito reunidas sob o nome de biologia da arte constituíram as raízes esquecidas do pensamento antropológico de Aby Warburg. Conhecidas por ele em 1895-1896, essas perspectivas nutririam sua reflexão até o final de sua vida em 1927. A partir da análise etnográfica da representação de nomes próprios no Sepik, nós tentaremos em seguida mostrar que, para tentar decifrar a utopia que testemunha seu pensamento – formular uma antropologia da memória social tal como ela se funda sobre as tradições iconográficas –, é necessário retomar, de um ponto de vista crítico, o método morfológico da biologia da arte, e sua maneira de reconstruir as operações mentais implicadas no deciframento das imagens.

    Carlo Severi é diretor de estudos na École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales e diretor de pesquisa (emérito) no CNRS em Paris. Foi por duas vezes Getty Scholar no Getty Institute for the History of Art and the Humanities em Los Angeles (1994-95 e 2017), pesquisador do Wissenschaftskolleg em Berlim (2002-3), pesquisador visitante no King’s College, em Cabridge (2012-13), e ocupou a cátedra Richard Lehmann como professor visitante no Center for Renaissance Studies, na Universidade de Havard (Villa I Tati, Florença) em 2018-2019 e 2019-20.
