Geoturistic Route in the Independency Park, SP

Located in southern São Paulo City, the Independence Park is an urban leisure complex and a heritage site of cultural and civic importance. In addition to its extensive green areas and recreational spaces, the park houses the Paulista Museum, Casa do Grito, the Monument to the Independence, and the Imperial Crypt — buildings of great historical value associated with Brazil’s independence. Despite being highly visited by both residents and tourists, there is currently no route that presents to visitors the main stone monuments and their lithological and historical characteristics. Thus, the objective of this study was to establish a geotouristic itinerary aimed at valuing the stone heritage of the Independence Park and promoting the Geosciences. For this purpose, field visits to identify the monuments and their lithologies as well as bibliographic research on their origins were carried out. The itinerary proposed an integrated interpretation of the space, linking the cultural history of the landmarks of the Independence to the natural history recorded in the stones that compose them.
