Política de direitos autorais, ética e antiplágio
Copyright | Ethics | Anti-Plagiarism
The Revista de Italianística guarantees to the authors of the articles both copyright and unrestricted publishing rights. The journal is committed to upholding ethical standards and publication quality. All parties involved (authors, editors, reviewers, and members of the editorial and scientific boards) must respect these principles.
Resolution of Conflicts of Interest and Ethical Violations
Editors will take the necessary measures to identify and prevent the publication of articles involving research misconduct or ethical violations, such as plagiarism, citation manipulation, data falsification/fabrication, lack of proper authorizations, discrimination, among others. Situations and allegations brought to the attention of editors or reviewers will be submitted to the Editorial Committee, which will take appropriate action, including referring the case to higher instances of the University, if necessary.
Duties of Editors
Decision of Publication: Editors are responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published, guided by the policies established by the executive, scientific, and editorial boards. These policies must comply with current legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. In making decisions, editors may consult the Scientific and Editorial Boards.
Transparency and Respect: Editors will evaluate submitted manuscripts without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality: Editors and other members of the editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the reviewers and members of the editorial board.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the author’s explicit written consent; they must also decline to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions related to the manuscripts.
Involvement and Cooperation in Investigations: Editors will take appropriate measures when ethical complaints are presented concerning a submitted manuscript or a published article.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts through editorial communication.
Promptness: Any reviewer who feels unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or knows that a prompt review will be impossible should immediately notify the editor.
Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shown to or discussed with others.
Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support them with arguments.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers may identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. They should also draw the editor’s attention to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper known to them.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not evaluate manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the manuscripts.
Duties of Authors
General Standards: Authors of original research reports must provide an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. The paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit replication of the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their works are entirely original, and if they use the work and/or words of others, that this is properly cited. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. Since 2020, similarity checks have been performed using the iThenticate tool, provided by the University of São Paulo’s Agency for Libraries and Digital Collections (ABCD USP).
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: An author should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously and/or publishing the same paper in more than one publication constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work. Information obtained privately, such as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, must not be used or reported without explicit written permission from the source. Information obtained in the course of confidential services, such as manuscript refereeing or grant applications, must not be used without explicit written permission from the author of the work involved in these services.
Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Those who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged as contributors. The lead author(s) should ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included in the paper, that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript, and that they have agreed to its submission for publication.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors must disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their work. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the editors and cooperate with them to correct the paper.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy
The editorial process of the Revista de Italianística does not employ Artificial Intelligence tools at any stage.
The journal discourages the use of AI in the creation or editing of submitted texts due to risks such as false content and plagiarism. AI should only be used to complement, never replace, human contribution, which must constitute at least 70% of the work. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and originality of the content, even when using AI as an auxiliary tool.
If AI is used at any stage (writing, editing, analysis), authors must explicitly declare this information upon submission and in the appropriate section of the manuscript. AI tools cannot be considered authors, as they cannot assume legal or ethical responsibility.
Authors retain full responsibility for the content and any potential ethical violations, and the editorial team may take action if undeclared AI use is identified.
This policy follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Duties of the Editorial Team
The entire editorial team of the Revista de Italianística is committed to ensuring that advertising, reprints, or any other commercial revenue source has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. Articles are peer-reviewed in a double-blind process to ensure the quality of scientific publication.
This statement is based on Elsevier’s recommendations and on the Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
