O estabelecimento da empatia através do ethos: um mecanismo de persuação

Abstract

This study aims at discussing the construction of empathy by chronicle writers. Chronicles have been considered as a hybrid genre (journalistic-literary). Based on a corpus of 16 texts published in the magazines Veja São Paulo and Veja Rio between December 26, 2007, and February 13, 2008, the prevailing linguistic mechanisms directly related to the image of the writer were analyzed, i.e., the discursive ethos. These mechanisms show an exhortative endeavor, revealing an opinionative angle in this kind of texts, in addition to its poetic and interpretative angles.
