Abstract

The linguistic system of Portuguese establishes in the domain of the person category a clear distinction among the three so called grammatical persons. Nevertheless, the use of a person for another is usual in discourse. This paper aims at showing that this phenomenon is determinated by a linguistic mechanism which is related to the categories of enunciation. It is also its goal to describe all possibilities of employment of a person for another in Portuguese, as well as the sense effects created when the speaker makes use of this mechanism in the construction of the actors of a discourse
