Abstract

This essay analyzes the myth of Don Juan in two works from America (Le Don Juan Chrétien – 1966, from the Quebec author Jacques Ferron, and Don Juan acorrentado – 1999, from the Brazilian author Wanda Fabian) from the Jean Rousset’s analyzes (The myth of Don Juan – 1981) that studies the myth through three fundamental points of view: the inconstant being, the feminine group and the dead figure. At first, it is presented the myth of Don Juan’s historical way in written literature from Europe, watching its characteristics. On a second moment, Jean Rousset’s analyzes is developed, and following, it is studied the migration of the myth to the American imaginary, with Jacques Ferron’s work in Quebec and Wanda Fabian’s in Brazil, dealing with it through three fundamental points of view raised by Jean Rousset. Finally, it is aimed to observe the transformations of the myth of Don Juan when a new literary and social context is met, when migrating to a new cultural imaginary. It is still aimed to study which characteristics of initial myth will be kept in these American appearances and which will give a new meaning to the mith.
