Abstract

Nowadays History is very interest in discussing the relations between the showing of truth facts and the construction of narratives. In Greek and Roman Antiquity History was a gender of discourse, its questions of inuentio, dispositio and elocutio were treated in the field of Rhetoric. This paper try to discuss how the Greek and Roman historians search rhetorically the approximation of truth. Cicero (Ad Familiares, V, 12) is here suggesting how to manage that search. Sallust (De Coniuratione Catilinae, 53-54) is performing that suggestion
