This article deals with the relationship between History and Literature during the second part of XX century and beginning of XXI century. It is divided into two parts: “Cartography of Attraction” and “Cartography of Disjunction” In the first part, we focus on Roland Barthes’ and Hyden White’s ideas on History and Literature. The two authors understand the History as a literary artifact and analyzed the “scientific discourse’ in the historic narrative. The narrative and the linguistic tropics (such as metaphor, metonymy) are emphasized in their analysis. In the “Cartography of Disjunction” we expanded on the debate on authors such as Luiz Costa Lima, Roger Chartier, and others who understand History as a specific narrative that is different from literary narrative. The main argument of Lima and Chartieris that History narrative is supported by the idea of truth. In their opinion, History produces a verifiable and controllable knowledge, which we cannot find in Literature. These opposite ideas are important to the Humanities, because they regard to the apprehension of facts and fictions, and demonstrate that the Theory of History and Literature cannot be considered separatelyDownloads
