Abstract

One of the features of Plautiis as a playwright is the careful composition of his characters. Representing the "New Comedy" in Rome, Plaiilus rebuilds specific "types" of the Greek society, very common in the comedies written by his "masters". He makes use of conventionalism and, emphasizing their characteristics, composes true caricatures, but, sometimes, creates surprísingly original dramatis personae, impregnating then with Roman elements. Thus, he not only was able to transpose the palliata to the Roman world but also gave it a particular style: see, for instance, the female characters in Aulularia
