Abstract

Aiming at contributing to the reflections on differentiated indigenous education, I focus here on Brazilian educator Paulo Freire’s proposal of generating themes. I bring it to the panorama of contemporary reflections concerning New Literacy Studies, as well as Bakhtinian concepts of chronotope and discourse genres. I also approximate it to the concepts of ethnicity and semiosphere so as to better envisage some gaps we need to surpass when facing the new challenges present today in the area of Applied Linguistics and Education.
