Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to characterize the Hobbits' way of life in the legendary Tolkien. For that, we take as reference the works The Hobbit (2002-a) and The Lord of the Rings (2002-b) as a corpus of research, and analyze them from the perspective of Marxist aesthetics, especially the Reflection theory, discussed by Lukács (2010). We try to relate some aspects of Hobbits society to the medieval European society of the High Middle Ages, presented by Ginzburg (2010) in Cheese and Worms.
