Aprendizagem e fracasso do jovem Alfredo: Dalcídio Jurandir e o romance moderno de formação na Amazônia oriental

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to appeal to the Romance of Formation of German origin, considering on this track, at the beginning of the 20th century, a kind of “modern romance of formation / education” in Brazilian literature. The novels of D. Jurandir fulfill what R. Selbmann (1994) considers to be the “obligatory instance” of a novel of formation (Bildungsroman), the presence of the formation (school and/or professional). The term “modern novel of formation” indicates that it is a narrative of development, learning and education, under the conditions of the first half of the 20th century and the barbarism of World War II, of a political and humanist hope that is failing but present.
