The paper develops the idea that the organizers of the Modern Art Week did not consider architecture a form of artistic expression. The architects chose to participate in the visual arts exhibit - Spaniard Antonio Garcia Moya and Pole George Przirembel - created works unlike those being produced in São Paulo at the time, thus demonstrating their expressive and creative freedom. Their works, however, were not as imaginative as those made by Victor Dubugras, our first architect to produce modern work (the railroad station in Mairinque in 1907, where reinforced concrete was used for the first time). The author seeks to explain the reasons behind the modernists' choice of the two architects instead of Dubugras.Downloads
