This article aims to propose a reflection on the ways in which archives are presented in contemporary art, specifically addressing the establishment of the sketchbook as an archival process in the context of poetic productions. It presents an analysis of the concept of the sketchbook historically produced by artists and its material relationship with the book format, in order to determine and observe that this medium is not only related to procedures intended for a particular view of mnemonic notes, but goes beyond this intimate situation, revealing itself as a legitimate material form of expression intended for the public and carrying within itself a signic potential with numerous conceptual and relational implications linked to the archive, drawing, and consequently other artistic languages.
