Bernard Stiegler, media theory, contemporary French philosophyAbstract
Bernard Stiegler (1952-2020) is one of the leading contemporary philosophers of technology. There is an important dimension in his oeuvre that has not yet gained due attention among its commentators. It is his thinking about media, understood as technologies of inscription, processing and distribution of information. Disciple of Jacques Derrida, Stiegler would deepen the theory of the writing (l’écriture), transforming it into a theory of media materiality. The article argues that the basis of Bernard Stiegler’s thoughts lies in a media philosophy. The objective of this effort is to highlight the possible contributions of the author to media studies.
