Abstract

Considering the conventions established for shōnen manga and the logic of production in the Japanese manga industry, Shaman King, by Hiroyuki Takei, has raised questions since its creation in 1998, and successive re-editing processes over the course of two decades. Here, questions are raised about the relationship between the author, the market and the public, given that, although it shares common demographic characteristics, it also tensions them, gradually moving away from mainstream standards. Therefore, this proposal aims to highlight these processes, investigating the importance of the author's role and questioning the practices of ranking, which define continuities and cancellations.
