The facets of the human condition from the perspective of Téo and Eulália, a creation by Caetano Cury

Abstract

The meaning of the human condition transcends the displacement of identity, involving the process of "becoming" and not just that of "being" (Hall, 2006). The fluidity of identity stands out, indicating that meaning is not finished, but shaped by pluralities intrinsic to the perception of the cultural world. In this context, the themes compiled in Téo & o Mini Mundo, by Caetano Cury (2020), become tools for reflecting on the search that permeates the action of trying to achieve unity, but becomes fragmented. The aim is to relate the construction of the strip to the language resources of comics and the theme of human condition through an interpretivist analysis. Three facets were identified from the compilation of strips: the understanding of life based on existence and death; the exploration of emotions based on internal and external conflicts; and the critique of social relations. To this end, the analysis includes the dialog between the characters Téo and Eulália in line with certain resources (narrative scene, space and expressiveness of the characters). We will use the contributions of Acevedo (1990), Cagnin (2014) and Ramos (2012) to the language of comics.
